TSF Readers’ Cup
The TSF Readers’ Cup was set up eight years ago as a fun way to encourage and inspire children to enjoy the love of reading. The annual event is a ‘University Challenge’-style book quiz, which pits primary schools against each other. Four separate rounds of the TSF Readers’ Cup take place in Battersea, Clapham, Fulham and Kensington. The competition culminates with a cross-neighbourhood Grand Final featuring the winners from the four previous heats.
Each round of the event comprises teams from four primary schools all from Year 6. The challenge involves reading three set books and answering a series of quick-fire questions. A total of 36 children from across each neighbourhood take part in what has become the only reading competition of its kind in London.
Each year, TSF carefully selects the chosen books based on feedback from school teachers, libraries and bookshops. In addition a TSF Readers’ Cup patron comes to meet the children and share their inspiration for their books. We are thrilled that this year’s patron is children’s author Sophia Bennett.
Ultimately, our aim through the TSF Readers’ Cup is to encourage and improve literacy levels in this age group while promoting a positive experience of reading.
