A fanfare of streamers and whooping from the assembled audience signalled the end to the 2018 TSF Readers’ Cup Grand Final at Thomas’s Battersea, crowning Westbridge Primary school as overall winners.
The Grand Final saw four schools, Westbridge from Battersea, High View from Clapham, Sir John Lillie from Fulham and St Thomas’ from Kensington come head to head to pit their knowledge on four set books in the quick-fire quiz. Each school had already won their local heats and now were face-to-face with their cross-neighbourhood opponents. In the nail-biting final round only 300 points separated the top three teams.
Special thanks go to this year’s TSF Readers’ Cup patron author Kiran Milwood Hargrave for giving up her time and encouraging the children to read and use their imagination.
The TSF Readers’ Cup is now in its seventh year and involves 160 children from 16 schools. An army of TSF reading mentors encourages the children to read the chosen texts and tutors them for the competition while hopefully igniting their passion for reading.
