Pathway – broadening horizons
Pathway is TSF’s latest dynamic educational programme designed to enhance the traditional primary-school education of 10 to 11 year-olds. Pathway joins TSF’s already busy stable of exciting and creative projects and has been specifically designed to help ambitious children from more disadvantaged backgrounds living in Battersea, Clapham, Fulham and Kensington.
TSF has garnered advice from experts in this field to develop a free-of-charge programme, which builds on the education already offered by the primary State sector. The approach, which is multi- disciplinary, incorporates investigative maths and science, literature and elements of art, music, philosophy, drama and sport. Taught by Thomas’s London Day Schools teachers, Pathway requires student attendance one Saturday morning per month from January to December with two full days activities in July. The programme, including all resources and access to Google Classroom, is means tested and provided free of charge.
Setting it apart from other tools designed to improve education, is the fact that it is neither examined nor results driven. The concept, and what makes it unique, is the provision of an enhanced, broad education rather than a booster for better exam results.
A pilot TSF Pathway programme will start in January 2019 with applications put forward by State primary Head Teachers. TSF’s aim is that pupils successfully completing Pathway will have greater ambition, confidence and access to selective State secondary schools, academies or bursary-funded places within the Independent sector. An advisory panel will also assist parents in the choice of future schools.
