TSF funded Taekwondo and Drama Classes with W.o.W are Producing Great Results

TSF has helped to fund two wonderful programmes run by W.o.W (The Women of Wandsworth), as described in the group’s April newsletter. Taekwondo has been run in the Katherine Low Settlement for the last 12 months and “has improved the children’s coordination, self defense skills and has boosted their confidence.” The W.o.W Drama class “is becoming the most popular after school activity in York Gardens Library.”

Nail biting finish at the First Kensington Readers Cup

Four teams of five pupils from local schools Colville, Fox, St Mary Abbots and St Thomas’ battled it out at the first Kensington Readers Cup on 26th April, organised by Thomas’s Schools Foundation (TSF) and Waterstones Kensington.
All teams put on a terrific performance with each dominating a round of questions whether on one of the three chosen books or general knowledge.
“It was a closely fought competition with all teams having their moment of glory,” noted a teacher from St Mary Abbots.
The winner, by sudden death, was Fox School, who received the winners cup and a trip to Waterstones Kensington to choose books for their school library.
“So professional and great fun! Even a nail biting finish,” summed up a parent of one of the participating pupils.
The pupils and teachers involved had only praise for the event and everyone is already looking forward to a repeat next year.
“Our pupils learnt a great deal from participating and all the pupils were good team players and mature,” exclaimed the St Mary Abbots teacher.
“I cannot wait for next year.”

Summer in the Square Fair, 12th May

For the third year, TSF will be a sponsor and have a table at the fabulous Battersea Summer in the Square from 10 am to 5 pm in Battersea Square. Food, wares and activities for everyone! This year we will be hosting storytelling sessions for primary school children in the playground with our partner, Everyday Magic (http://www.everydaymagic.org.uk/). Come visit our stall on the High Street for updates on our activities or to talk bout how we can help in your local community.

TSF and Waterstones announce ‘Kensington Readers’ Cup’

The Thomas’s Schools Foundation and Waterstones Kensington have partnered to hold the first annual Kensington Readers’ Cup. The competition will be held on 26 April 2012 at 4:00 pm

The prize is a handsome cup and a trip to Waterstones Kensington for the winning team to choose books for the library of their school.

TSF at Saatchi Gallery

March 1st marked a terrifically successful Thomas’s Battersea PTA and TSF evening at the inspiring Saatchi Gallery. With over 400 current and past Thomas’s Battersea parents, the gallery was a buzz. A tremendous thank you to all who contributed to the event where we raised over £60k to support and inspire school children in our local community.

Magic Breakfast!!

Carmel McConnell will come to come and speak to us about her company Magic Breakfast ( http://www.magicbreakfast.com) at Thomas’s Battersea THIS FRIDAY the 24th February at 9.30am (Drama room).
Carmel was awarded the Social Entrepreneur of the Year (New Statesman/Edge) in 2008 and now works full time, on Magic Breakfast.
MAGIC BREAKFAST runs breakfast clubs in deprived state primary schools and could be introduced to schools we are in partnership with.
